L Thompson Optometrist have been delivering exceptional eyecare for Congleton and surrounding communities since 1984. In 1996 the practice was relocated to its current location on West Street and was further expanded in 2013. We are a family run independent optometry practice delivering professional and personal customer service to all our patients.
Our Story
Established in Congleton, Cheshire in 1984, Lyn Thompson's original practice was in what is now Weatherspoons. We moved to 27 West Street, and then to our current location at 5 West Street in 1996.
In 1986 we opened a second practice at 65 Liverpool Road, Kidsgrove.
In 2006 Lyn’s daughter, Amy qualified as an ophthalmic optician and joined the practice team.
In 2013 we were delighted to be able to enlarge our premises by expanding into number 7 West Street. We equipped the new test rooms with the newest technology including the OCT machine.
At the end of 2018 we decided to closed our Kidsgrove practice as Lyn started his semi-retirement.
Today optometry is not merely supplying spectacles and contact lenses; there are many different facets involved including Diabetic screening, glaucoma co-management, cataract referral, orthoptics and children’s eye care, to name but a few. A thorough eye examination can also reveal a great deal about your general health- high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and other more serious conditions. The team at L. Thompson continue to develop to keen up-to-date with all aspects of eye health.

The practice specialises in providing eyecare for the whole family. We offer comprehensive NHS and private enhanced eye examinations (using OCT technology), contact lens services, cataract and glaucoma shared care services, acute red eye CUES appointments, child friendly examinations and diabetic screening.
