Closure of our Kidsgrove Practice due to

Mr Thompson's semi-retirement

At the end of 2018, after 35+ years of testing 6 days a week, Mr Thompson decided to decrease his testing days. Sadly this means that we had to make the hard decision to close our Kidsgrove practice.

We would like to thank all the patients and staff who have worked in our kidsgrove practice for the past 32 years.

We have transfered all our patient records to our larger Congleton practice where eye examinations are avaliable 6 days a week.

We would love to keep seeing as many of our loyal Kidsgrove patients as possible, and will send out reminders when patients are due inviting them to Congleton.

A huge THANK YOU to Linda Mobbs who has been working with us at Congleton for the last (nearly) 3 years to cover Amy whilst she's been on her maternity leaves.

Linda has loved working with us but is retiring from Optics to focus on other ventures.

Good Luck Vicky & Welcome Patricia!

Vicky has decided to return to university to study, so will sadly no longer be part of the L. Thompson Team at Congleton. Vicky has been working with us for the past 7 years and will be missed.

Her shoes have been filled by Patricia who has recently moved to the area and has many years of dispensing experience.

We wish Vicky the best of luck for the future!

BACK TO SCHOOL

Summer holidays are officially over and school shoes are back on.

A sight test can help your child achieve their best!!

Amy visits Smallwood School

In February Smallwood School invited Amy to come and give a talk about Optometry as a career to some of the children. It was part of a aspirations week which included talks by other proffessionals like a pilot and scientist. The children learnt about eye development and how to keep your eyes healthy aswell as what happens when you come for an eye examination.

October 2015- Our MP visits Kidsgrove

Local MP calls on constituents to look after their eyesight by having regular eye tests
MP for Stoke-on-Trent North, Ruth Smeeth, visited L. Thompson Optometrists in Kidsgrove on Thursday 8th October to find out why regular eye tests are so important in preventing blindness.

1.8 million people in the UK are living with sight loss and this figure is set to increase by 115% to nearly 4 million people by 2050, largely due to the ageing population. Much of this is preventable through the early detection and treatment of eye problems. Regular eye tests are a simple and practical way to maintain good eye health and look after your eyes.

Commenting on her visit, Ruth Smeeth said:
“It was great to visit L. Thompson Optometrists here in Kidsgrove, and extremely informative to see the great work that they do. Many people don’t realise they are eligible for free sight tests, and I would urge everyone to make sure they are getting their eyes tested regularly.  ”

The visit was arranged between Staffordshire Local Optical Committee and Ruth Smeeth MP, with the support of the Optical Confederation’s Public Affairs Team, as part of the ongoing campaign to reduce the high level of avoidable sight loss in the UK.

December 10th 2013- Opening Night

To celebrate our re-opening as L.Thompson Optometrists and The Congleton Eyecare Centre we felt the need to celebrate with our local mayor George Hayes, Lyndon Taylor the chairman of the Association of Optometrists and local business people and friends!

November 2013- Finally!

We are delighted to announce that phase 2 of our refurbishment,  the updating of number 5 West Street, has now been completed.

We have a much larger frame display area which has enabled us to carry an even wider range of frame styles.

Also, with the increased space we have been able to create a designated dispensing area where patients can make their final frame choice in a more private environment.
